Workshop Descriptions

July 23: How to Learn By Ear - Until you’ve done it, learning a tune by ear seems extremely daunting. Here’s a chance to demystify the process and then try out your new skills with a simple tune taught at 7pm, by ear, of course!

July 24: Playing With Attitude - No one wants to sound like a robot but if you only play the dots and lines on the music you sound less-than-human. We will explore ways to make the music breathe, sing, swagger and stomp with attitude.

July 29: How to Read and Count Music - Bring your fiddles (or other instrument that plays the treble clef) and we will learn the basics of musical notation and practice reading music.

July 30: Bowing Clinic - You learned to “hold” the bow at your first lesson. If you’re like everyone else, another set of eyes and ears will make those adjustments that you need to sound your best and avoid strain and fatigue. Personal coaching of each attendee will help everyone.

Pop Music Play Along - I’ve chosen a number of pop and rock tunes with strong elements of “the riff”, bass lines, scales, chords, rhythms and melodies. We will play along, improvise (with help), dance and party with our fiddles. BYOB
