Session 5:30pm Concert 8:00pm

A Celtic Music Harvest Celebration

Orkney (Scotland) born fiddler Louise Bichan and Indiana (USA) mandolinist Ethan Setiawan present a collaboration and meeting of their musical worlds in Hildaland. A path steeped in the fiddle traditions of their respective sides of the Atlantic, the journey taken wends through Scottish, oldtime, and Swedish inspired music intertwined with contemporary compositions. Bichan’s fiddle is a melodic foil to Setiawan’s counterpoint and harmonic depth, and the two weave in and out seamlessly.

Setiawan has won such accolades as the 2014 National Mandolin Championship, the 2017 RockyGrass Mandolin Championship and has shared the stage with the likes of Julian Lage, Darrell Scott, Bryan Sutton, Mike Marshall, Tony Trischka, Darol Anger, Casey Driessen, the Steel Wheels, Don Stiernberg, Matt Flinner, and Jacob Jolliff.

Bichan has won awards for her compositions and playing, and has travelled far and wide to perform in various line ups since a young age. She has appeared at the likes of the BBC TV's Hogmanay Live show, Edinburgh Castle, Reading Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Lorient Interceltique Festival, Milwaukee Irish Festival and Sligo Live festival. In 2016 she released her first solo album, Out of My Own Light, to great acclaim.

David Paton and Claudine Langille first met at a St. Patrick’s day celebration at Block Island, Rhode Island in the 1980s, and found an immediate musical connection. They played together at festivals, had a weekly session together at the Harp and Hound Pub in Mystic CT, played for the huge contradances at Hotchkiss School in CT, recorded an album with flute player Skip McKinley, and for decades did not let the physical distances between them prevent collaborations.

Dave currently plays with his bands Bog Hollow and Contrabhanna, and hosts Sunday sessions at Bulls Bridge Inn, Kent CT. Claudine was a member of the band Touchstone, and Cape Breton Nova Scotia band The Fiddletree, and currently plays with Gypsy Reel and hosts Thursday sessions at Killarney Pub, Ludlow VT. Claudine knows Louise and Ethan from teaching at Mandolin Camp North in Charlton MA, and is delighted to be included in Hildaland’s show.

They will be joined by Joseph Sobol, who tours internationally as a storyteller, lecturer, teacher, composer, and virtuoso musician on cittern, guitar, and various fretted instruments.

November 14: Moors & McCumber Cancelled - stay tuned for reschedule

A vocal harmony duo fifteen years in the making, Moors & McCumber have done more than just endear themselves to fans - they’ve built a genuine community. Bridging the gap between classic folk rock and present day Americana, they write heartfelt songs directly inspired by life’s experiences. With their latest record, released in 2023, 'Wired to the Moon,' they have created some of their most compelling work to date.

The sound of Moors & McCumber is adventurous, eclectic, and endlessly creative. Borrowing from rock, pop, blues, folk, and world music, the two multi-instrumentalists defy common logic and embrace spontaneity to bring their stories and songs to life. Their strong vocal harmonies and unconventional instrumentation combine to create a mesmerizing experience. At the center of it all is their evocative songwriting.
